In fact, among critics of leggings, very few say that leggings shouldn’t be worn outside of the gym. Most just have a few caveats about HOW they should be worn. With that said, it seems pretty clear that most people agree, though there is some argument over how to wear them, that fitness leggings or workout leggings absolutely can be a fashion statement.

If you want to try wearing your leggings outside of the gym, some simple tips can help you to look great and to avoid criticism.

For starters, do like the lady in the above mentioned video recommends and wear leggings with a top that covers your rear end. Leggings can often be somewhat sheer, and the easiest way to make a fashion faux pas is to have your underwear showing through your leggings! There are many tops that can work well with leggings, including big sweaters, roomy long t-shirts, and untucked dress shirts. Accessories can help to make the outfit more or less fancy depending on where you’re going.

Leggings As An Accessory

Leggings also happen to look super cute under dresses. They serve as a warmer, thicker substitute for tights, making them perfect for the winter months. Plus, for dresses that are too short to wear on their own, they are a great way to offer a little coverage.

It’s important, though, that you always squat correctly. Not doing so could make the exercise less effective, which means you waste a lot of time and energy for minimal results. Or, if you really botch things up, you could injure yourself, which could lead to more time out of the gym and looking even WORSE in your leggings in the long run.

Fortunately, by following a few basic squatting tips, you can ensure your leggings always look awesome and that you do too!

Tip #1: Keep Your Knees Facing Forward!

This- keep your knees facing forward at all times- is probably the most important tip of all. It is imperative that you don’t let your knees buckle in on you, which they’ll instinctively want to do, when you’re getting down into your squat or coming out of it.

When the knees are allowed to buckle, you twist them and put undue pressure on them, which could easily lead to injury. Buckling also causes strain on the back and is just no good all around, so make it a point to keep your knees frontward!

Tip #2: Widen Those Feet

Many women have a tendency to stand with their feet too close together when they squat, which renders the workout less effective by keeping you from going as deep as possible, and which makes it easier to buckle the knees!

For best results, widen your stance. You’ll find it much easier to get into a full, truly parallel squat and to really work the butt and the backs of those legs and the inner thighs.

Tip #3: Go Deep

Finally, make sure you’re truly going as deep as possible into your squat. Get down as far as you can without buckling the knees or losing your form. The deeper you go, the more intense and effective the squat will be.

Remember to sit back, like you’re sitting into a chair, and, through all these exercises, push yourself because it will be worth it in the end!

Well, most female Zumba enthusiasts come to class in leggings, and there’s a good reason- because they’re so darn comfortable and allow the wearer to move freely, which is absolutely necessary in Zumba. Before buying a pair and heading to class though, it’s a good idea to make sure your leggings fit comfortably and don’t ride up, pinch, or bunch when you move. Break Them In

We suggest wearing them around the house for a few days, or even better yet, wearing them while doing some stretches or other moves to get them used to your body and the way it bends and moves.

As mentioned, Zumba requires a LOT of bouncing, stretching, and bending, and if you have cheap leggings that aren’t sewn tightly and securely or that are too thin, you’re setting yourself up for an embarrassing, pants-ripping moment!

Finally, do try and choose leggings that are designed for working out and that are thus moisture absorbent. You don’t want to have to dance in wet leggings- that’s just uncomfortable. Leggings that absorb sweat quickly while still letting you move are your best bet for Zumba fun!

5 Yoga Exercises for Perfect Legs

Leggings are all the rage these days, but, if you’re like most women, you don’t want to merely wear your leggings. No, you want to truly ROCK them. The best way to rock them is with gorgeous, toned legs, which, fortunately, you can accomplish with some basic but highly effective yoga moves. Before you start, check us out for all your workout attire!

Yoga Exercise #1: The Three-Legged Dog

Most people are familiar with the classic yoga pose “downward facing dog,” but just in case, this basic pose has you bend down, legs straight, like you were doing a toe touch. Then, you extend those arms way out in front of you, going down into a nice leg stretch.

To amp up the intensity on this pose and get your legs legging-ready in the process, step your feet together, lift your right leg as high as you can, and hold for five seconds before repeating the move, alternating sides as you go. This should help with balance, coordination, and toning the legs and tush!

Yoga Exercise #2: The Wheel

This one is tough, but it works, and with a little practice, you can master it in no time!

To start this move, lie on your back and bend your knees, keeping your feet hip-width apart. You should be in the same position you’d be in if you were about to do crunches. Here comes the tough part- press down into your hands and feet, using the momentum to lift your hips and lengthen your arms. As you press, move your chest upward as far as you can; at the peak of this move, you could basically be in a full upward bend, and the deeper you can go, and the longer you can hold it, the more you’ll tone your legs!

Yoga Exercise #3: The Cow

If you don’t want to look like a cow, DO the cow. Okay, that was a little harsh, but you get what we’re seeing, and, to be honest, this is one of the easier exercises on our list.

Though you’ll end up in a seated, stretched position, start out by getting onto your hands and knees, Then, from that position, cross your right leg over your left and slowly sit back until you’re on the ground in this cross-stretch. Hold it, stretching out and tightening those leg muscles, and then switch sides and repeat as many times as possible.

Yoga Exercise #4: The Plank

Another good one to try for your legs and every part of your body is the plank. Start on bent elbows, and extend your legs behind you into push-up position. Hold for as long as you can; you’ll feel every muscle in your body (and your legs!) working hard.

Yoga Exercise #5: Plank Push-ups

Once you’ve mastered the plank, come up off your elbows and onto your palms and, with your legs still stretched behind you, start pushing your body up and down. You can retreat to the knees if you need a little break!

The more you do these yoga poses, the more ready you’ll be to rock out those leggings, so go for it!
